After working through this chapter, students
01.01 International Business Law
- know why business needs rules and can explain the functions of law;
- know the layers of international business law and the role of soft law, can distinguish them and give an example for each;
- are able to recognise from practical cases when a business case is international;
- understand the first two questions that must be settled in every international case and know how the parties can settle them in advance;
- understand why law is territorial while business is global, and what follows from this for international business law.
01.02 Legal Tech – Working with AI in Legal Practice
- know what legal tech is and understand how generative AI has changed the concept and what it means for them as users of legal services;
- know the main legal issues raised by AI and understand how regulatory approaches differ around the world;
- are able to validate chatbot output and know the rules for the confidentiality of company data;
- are able to use a chatbot to find and verify the rules of their own country;
- are able to analyse a court decision with a chatbot and to assess the result critically.
