Learning objectives

    • Understanding the purpose and meaning of legal data protection
    • Know which data is protected by the Swiss Data Protection Act and the EU GDPR
    • Knowledge of the most important data protection principles and their meaning and purpose
    • Be able to apply the most important data protection principles to a data lifecycle
    • Know what privacy by design and by default means in terms of data protection law, understand its purpose and how to implement it in practice
    • Know what a privacy policy is and what its purpose and content is
    • Knowledge of the right to information in the context of data protection law and how this is to be handled in practice
    • Knowledge of the conditions under which data subject to data protection may be transferred abroad, with particular knowledge of the relationship between Switzerland, the EU, and the USA
    • Knowledge of the legal consequences of violating Swiss data protection regulations, in general
    • Know what the EU GDPR is and when it applies internationally
