The principle of purpose limitation (Art. 6 para. 3 FADP) means, on the one hand, that data may not be collected without a purpose, i.e. for storage. On the other hand, once the purpose of data collection has been communicated to the data subject during data collection, it may not be changed without their consent or a corresponding legal basis. This means, in particular, that data may not be used for purposes other than those for which it was collected.
